The PIBID/BIRDC Resource Centre is a specialized unit within the Presidential Initiative on Banana Industrial Development / Banana Industrial Research and Development Centre (PIBID/BIRDC), designed to collect, classify, process, and deliver both print and electronic information. Its primary purpose is to support research, training, and technology transfer efforts by facilitating access to knowledge for researchers, staff, board members, and registered rural farmers.
As a research-based initiative, the Resource Centre plays a pivotal role in strengthening the bridge between academic institutions and rural entrepreneurship. The content curated and maintained in the Centre will serve research purposes and be an ongoing informational asset to PIBID/BIRDC.
The Resource Centre aims to assist researchers and rural stakeholders in producing high-quality, impactful work. Access to comprehensive literature — including online databases, print resources, and digital tools — empowers users to conduct thorough and relevant research.
The Role and Importance of a Resource Centre
A dynamic Resource Centre is the heartbeat of any research institution. Former Indian President, Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, once said, “A Resource Centre is the heart of an Institution.” This highlights its indispensable role in driving knowledge and innovation.
The Resource Centre emphasizes standardization, a critical aspect in managing information. Standards provide rules for identifying, classifying, accessing, selecting, exploiting, preserving, and communicating information resources. According to Matysek (2015), standardization ensures uniformity and enhances the efficiency of research and information management processes.
The strategic objectives of the PIBID/BIRDC Resource Centre are aligned with the Centre’s broader 5-year strategic plan, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable development in banana industrial research.
